THINGS TO REMEMBER:

- Anything you want for the day on Friday, June 5 needs to be in your carry-on bag when we depart. The bus luggage compartment will not be opened up after our departure on Thursday evening.
- Each 4-H=er can bring one carry-on bag and one suitcase of any size. Be able to carry all your things at one time including the items that you purchase while on the trip.
- A 6 pack of pop, juice or water to be put in the luggage compartment. Each
person can put two drinks in an ice cooler at a time. Please have the individual cans/bottles marked with your name USING A PERMANENT MARKER and securely held together in a plastic bag.

- All committee responsibilities should be put into your black UNL folder and kept in your carry-on bag.

- I suggest that everyone bring a pillow and blanket on the bus, as the temperature is hard to predict.

- Arrive at your assigned departure locations 30 minutes early. A sponsor will be distributing luggage tags prior to departing. (One tag for your carry-on and one tag for your suitcase.)

- Spending money - Do not carry a lot of cash at one time and do not bring unnecessary credit cards. (You should not need more than $100 cash at one time.)

- You may bring DVD=s with you on the trip. I want them to be rated PG or pretty clean R movies. The sponsors will have the right not to view those movies they feel are inappropriate. Be sure you put your name on the case as well as the DVD. DO NOT EVEN THINK OF BRINGING INAPPROPRIATE MOVIES OF ANY KIND ONTO THE BUS. YES, THIS MEANS WE WILL BE WATCHING MANY DISNEY MOVIES DURING THE TRIP. THINK FUN!!!

- The trip t-shirts that each participant will receive will be distributed when you board and will need to be slipped into your large suitcase your put into your carry-on bag.

- Do not forget to pack your "trade items" pins that you received at our April meeting. You will want to have these at the National 4-H Center.

- If you have further questions, please call me on my cell phone as I am only in the office for short periods of time this next week.

How will U respond on the trip?

As you read the following list of situations, how will you respond? It is appropriate? Does it creat a danger for you or the others on the bus?

1. A homeless person approaches you and asks for money. What should you do?

2. You are singled out for questioning when going through a security check point.
What should you do?

3. You become separated from the group in New York City while we are on our way
to the Broadway Play. What should you do?

4. You are in a small group or (against) all policies by yourself and you feel a person or
a group is following or stalking you. What should you do?

5. As you begin to settle into your motel room, a fellow roommate for the night,
whom you have not roomed with before and really do not know at all uses the bathroom.
After they leave the restroom you notice a strong smell coming from the bathroom.
What should you do?

6. Our group is out to eat at a nice buffet meal. The sponsors have requested that everyone dress fairly dressy. This means ties for the young men. How should your table of 4 be acting while waiting for the server to bring your plates for the buffet?

7. When serving yourself at the buffet line, you do not recognize many of the dishes or
foods on the buffet. What should you do?

8. We arrive at a motel way past midnight. You are extremely tired and just want to go to bed.
9. The sponsors have asked that everyone stick around and help with luggage and cleaning the bus. What can you do to help out?

10. The sponsors have requested that everyone get into their COLOR GROUPS
so a head count can be taken. You find yourself in the middle of a great
conversation about your visit to the Supreme Court. What should you do?

11. At Medieval Times you find yourself seated with fellow 4-H'ers
whom you do not know very well. How will you handle the situation?

12. We are out to eat at a very nice restaurant. Everyone is dressed very nicely. As you take your seat you notice that your place setting has 2 forks, 2 knives and 2 spoons.
What should you do? How will you know where to begin eating?

13. At the rest stop you are finishing washing your hands in the restroom. You notice a fellow 4-H'er just arrive to use the restroom. What should you do before leaving the restroom?

14. You are extremely thirsty and have just begun our 8 hour bus ride for the day.
You reach into the cooler hoping to find one last water bottle that you brought on the trip.
But to your misfortune, yours= is all gone. You notice that the cooler has several
water bottles with someone else's name on them. What should you do?

Departure Letter with Details

DATE: May 8, 2009

TO: High Plains 4-H CWF Participants

FROM: Brenda Aufdenkamp
Extension Educator

RE: Rooming Lists, Committee Assignment & Details

With approximately 24 days left before we depart for the High Plains CWF trip, I have finished all the details. Please review the following letter and enclosures as several committee=s have responsibilities that need to be completed within the next two weeks.

1.) Enclosed is an updated participant list.

2.) I am including the final copy of the itinerary booklet, please give one copy to your parent(s). This booklet includes your committee assignments and roommates for each night of the trip. You will find all sponsor cell phone numbers listed, these should be used in case of an Emergency.

3.) Your Committee Assignments, please read through your responsibilities as some committee members need to be contacting one another right away or completing a task prior to the trip. If you have questions, please give me a call.

4.) Orange Sheet - If I am missing a form from you, there is a list of items on this sheet. Please complete these forms and have them in the mail to me NO LATER THAN MAY 22.
YOU WILL NOT be able to board the bus without all these forms being completed.
DO NOT HOLD UP OUR DEPARTURE TIME!!

5.) Blue Sheet - This is to confirm where you will be boarding the bus on June 4 as well as where you will be dropped off on June 18.

6.) COLOR GROUPS - You have been divided into 5 color groups. This is merely to help maneuver more efficiently at times throughout the trip. Such as on subways, checking in the hotel in NYC and when counting noses. Be aware of what color group you a part of.

- - OVER - -

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

( Anything you want for the day on Friday, June 5 needs to be in your carry-on bag when we depart. The bus luggage compartment will not be opened up after our departure on Thursday evening.
( Each 4-H=er can bring one carry-on bag and one suitcase of any size. Be able to carry all your things at one time including the items that you purchase while on the trip.

( A 6 pack of pop, juice or water to be put in the luggage compartment. Each
person can put two drinks in an ice cooler at a time. Please have the individual cans/bottles marked with your name USING A PERMANENT MARKER and securely held together in a plastic bag.

( All committee responsibilities should be put into your black UNL folder and kept in your carry-on bag.

( I suggest that everyone bring a pillow and blanket on the bus, as the temperature is hard to predict.

( Arrive at your assigned departure locations 30 minutes early. A sponsor will be distributing luggage tags prior to departing. (One tag for your carry-on and one tag for your suitcase.)

( Spending money - Do not carry a lot of cash at one time and do not bring unnecessary credit cards. (You should not need more than $100 cash at one time.)

( You may bring DVD=s with you on the trip.

( The trip t-shirts that each participant will receive will be distributed when you board and will need to be slipped into your large suitcase your put into your carry-on bag.

( If your parents want to stay tuned to your trip developments and pictures, go to the CWF blog:

( I will be checking my email frequently throughout the trip. My e-mail is baufdenkamp1@unl.edu

(Do not forget to pack your Atrade pins@ that you received at our April meeting. You will want to have these at the National 4-H Center.

If you have further questions, please call me prior to June 1, as I will be spending a few days at home to get organized.
